Volunteers are Needed!
I am delighted to report that the Friends have permission from Newport Council to reopen the Ship Centre. I am therefore approaching everyone who has an interest in the Newport Medieval Ship to invite them to help run the Centre in future.
If you could spare a little time it would be wonderful if you could help to
- welcome and take visitors around and explain the exhibits,
- staff the reception desk,
- run the sales of merchandise,
- organise the volunteer rota
There is something for everyone and always room for more! If you can spare at least half a day a month then we would like to hear from you. We shall provide training and full support for all volunteers. This is a great opportunity to get more involved with the ship project and a chance to play your part in getting others excited by it too.
We will begin slowly by opening for planned group visits during June and open up for individuals and families from Friday 17th July to coincide with the start of the summer holidays. We will open on Fridays and Saturdays until the end of October.
The Ship Centre has changed a great deal since it was last open with much improved and more interesting displays so that it offers an even more rewarding experience for visitors. The pandemic has of course changed the way in which we gather together. We must book in visitors, and ensure they follow COVID protocols and are given a guided tour rather than being free to wander by themselves. We will provide the necessary training and support for these new arrangements also.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer I can guarantee a worthwhile and interesting experience and you will be making a valuable contribution to the project. If you would like to know more, please email or ring one of the Committee, whose contact details are below and they can tell you more about what is involved.
