Talk: Wales-Somerset Medieval Maritime Trade Links

A talk by Philip Ashford

7pm Wednesday 3rd July

The history of the Severn Estuary is dominated by links between Somerset and south Wales. It is impossible to understand the economic development of either area without studying both.

Philip Ashford has written extensively on Somerset ’s farming and woollen trade. His talk will explore the personal, political and economic links with south Wales between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries. Understanding these links will give us a fuller appreciation of the 15th Century environment of the Newport Ship and its trade.

Venue: the Newport Medieval Ship Centre, Estuary Road,

Newport NP19 4SP (www.newportship.org for directions)
