Volunteer Newsletter Editor

The Friends of the Newport Ship are seeking a volunteer to produce the charity’s newsletters.

At the moment we produce three newsletters a year with an ambition to publish more frequently, once a quarter, subject to sufficient material being available. SOS, a larger print version, is published before the AGM with a slimmer newsletter published at other points in the year. The newsletters are distributed by email and post to all members.  Examples of past editions can be seen in the Newsletters section of our website.

The editor position would suit someone with a good feel for organisation and planning. An ability to meet tight deadlines. And be able to work independently and as part of a team. Writing and editing experience is desirable.

As editor you will have responsibility for production of SOS and News-sheet. Ensuring the publications maintain their editorial standards and continue to support the aims and objectives of the charity. Creating a newsletter with a feel for how a new reader, as well as existing readers, will regard the published material. Knowledge of the Ship and nautical archaeology are not essential.

IT and online publishing skills are desirable but not essential. Support is available from others who can assist with formatting and layout for the final publication.

The Newsletter material is handled online, so physical proximity to the Ship Centre is not essential. This role might would be suitable for a home/remote worker, who is prepared to attend occasional meetings at the Ship Centre, and wishing to be involved with the Ship Project.

The time commitment is anticipated to be approximately 4 hours per week but there will be times of the year when more hours will be required, e.g. prior to newsletter copy deadlines.

If you are interested or would like further information please contact Bob Evans, Chair of the Friends (07808 778449 or via our contact us form).

We look forward to hearing from you.
